I arrived at Caymus Vineyards on time at 1:00 pm July 12, 2011. When I approached the door, it was opened for me by social media manager Frank Gutierrez before I could open it for myself. Frank’s wife, Anita Gouloomian, joined us for the tasting of the Wagner Family of Wines portfolio. We tasted the Caymus Sauvignon Blanc outside and chatted a bit about how Frank and Anita ended up living and working in Napa. We realized that it might be a bit warm outside to taste the other wines, so we went inside to the barrel area and continued our tasting there.

Frank presented and discussed each wine, and wow, was it a comprehensive tasting! We tasted Conundrum (white blend), Mer Soleil Chardonnay, Belle Glos Oeil de Perdrix Pinot Noir Blanc Brugioni Vineyards (Sonoma County), Belle Glos Pinot Noir Taylor Lane Vineyard (Sonoma County), Belle Glos Pinot Noir Clark & Telephone Vineyard (Santa Maria Valley, Santa Barbara County), Belle Glos Pinot Noir Las Alturas (Santa Lucia Highlands, Monterey County), Meiomi Belle Glos Pinot Noir (blend from Sonoma, Monterey, Santa Barbara Counties), Caymus Zinfandel (only available directly from the winery), Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon, and Caymus Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon. Toward the end of the tasting, Mer Soleil Chardonnay winemaker Charlie Wagner joined us for a brief discussion and photos. It was an amazing tasting. Definitely plan to visit Caymus on your next visit to Napa Valley.

  1. I feel drunk just reading that list. Loved getting to know you. Looking forward to more adorable photos of kitty drinking high end wines. 😉 Hope to see you next time your in town.

    1. Me, too. 🙂 I am glad we finally got to meet in person! And yes, we’ll definitely see each other when I’m back in Napa!

  2. The Envy sets in…. We so love their wines. Reading this to Amy makes us want to move up our plans to vacation there. Our top two destinations are Caymus and see Thomas at The French Laundry!

    1. It was an amazing 11-wine tasting and experience. I highly recommend it. I’ll definitely be back myself.
