Masciarelli Grand Portfolio Tasting

Table 26, where I served tastings for five hours

Recently I had the opportunity to participate as a volunteer at the Masciarelli Grand Portfolio Tasting at the gorgeous Wharf Room at the Boston Harbor Hotel. It was a great learning and tasting experience for me. I stood at table 26 for nearly five hours pouring and describing wines from Anderson’s Conn Valley Vineyards and Robert Keenan Winery for Massachusetts retailers. At first I was nervous, but a couple of hours into the tasting, a gentleman told me that he couldn’t believe that this was my first time, that I presented the wines nicely, and that he was sure I was the only person in the room with a Southern accent. Ha ha. I breathed a sigh of relief.

During my break, I had the opportunity to taste wines from Boutinot, Foris Vineyards Winery, Sierra Madre Vineyard, Standing Stone Vineyards, and Westport Rivers. My favorites were the bacon-flavored Paarl Heights Shiraz from Boutinot, Foris’ Alsatian-style whites, Sierra Madre Pinot Noir, Standing Stone Dry Vidal, and Westport Rivers Brut RJR.

There was a very nice dinner after the tasting where I tasted the Masciarelli Trebbiano d’Abruzzo and Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, both very nice value wines.
